Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the creation and substantiation of a new humanitarian direction: linguogenionics in the naive and scientific pictures of the world of the English-speaking society, which provides a comprehensive analysis of the linguistic definition of the phenomenon of genius from the standpoint of linguoconceptology, field theory and linguopersonology. The relevance of the work is determined by the general anthropocentric scientific paradigm of today, the priority of modern linguistic and cognitive research to study the processes of conceptualization of reality and the lack of comprehensive studies of the phenomenon of genius and the figure of genius in terms of linguistic representation. The research focuses primarily on the study of conceptual aspects of linguogenionics in English naive and scientific pictures of the world, the distinction of which is already established and confirmed by numerous studies based on specific language material. The hypothesis underlying this thesis is that the English conceptual field GENIUS consists of three segments connected by a cyclic relationship. Each of these segments is denoted by a corresponding nuclear concept: GENIUS as a phenomenon, GENIUS as a person, and A WORK OF GENIUS. The ontological cycle consists of the following three parts: 1) a person endowed with 2) the gift of genius creates 3) a masterpiece that is recognized as a work of genius (in art or science), and this gives its creator the status of a genius. The study is based on general explanatory dictionaries of the English language, specialized dictionaries and encyclopedias, English artistic, publicist and scientific texts, as well as the British National Corpus. The total sample of these sources is about 100 dictionary and encyclopedic definitions and more than 3,000 contexts of the usage of key names of the studied nuclear concepts. The subject of the analysis is the language and speech embodiment of the concepts GENIUS as a phenomenon, GENIUS as a person and A WORK OF GENIUS in English naive and scientific pictures of the world.
