Theoretical aspects of regulating the import of agri-food products to Ukraine are generalized. The essence of category «import regulation of agri-food products» was deepened and supplemented, its significance for meeting the needs of the domestic food market was established. Typical features of international trade in agri-food products at the present stage are described. The importance of agricultural production for the country's food supply has been established. The main indicators of food consumption in the world and in Ukraine are given. An up-to-date list of food security indicators is considered. The global import of agricultural raw materials and ready food products by groups of goods and countries of consumption is analyzed. The historical and modern experience of food import substitution in separate countries and regions is studied. Described the conditions of Ukraine's foreign trade in the acquisition of WTO membership and signing the Association Agreement with the European Union. The commodity and geographical structure of agri-food imports to Ukraine in the dynamics since 2000 is detailed. Indicators of import dependence and self-sufficiency of Ukraine on the main types of food are calculated. The potential of point-aimed import substitution through the development of own agricultural production is estimated. Forecasting of volumes and tendencies of import different agro-food products to Ukraine for the near future is carried out, offers concerning influence the activity of economic subjects on key directions of food import regulation are developed.
