Pysmenna U. Energy transitions and the sustainability of economy

The thesis is devoted to the development of scientific and methodological basis of energy transitions in the context of socio-technical changes on the way to sustainable economic development and applied scientific and methodological provisions of energy policy formation to achieve sustainability of energy system as a component of economy. The evolution of scientific views on the assessment of the efficiency and sustainability of economic systems is presented. The scientific problem of the influence of socio-technical transitions, in particular, of energy transitions, on the stability of the economy has been updated and revealed. The connection between the components of energy and economic sustainability are highlighted, factors of the influence of energy sustainability on economic sustainability are analyzed. The scientific and methodological background of sustainable transitions has been developed. The prerequisites for sustainable energy transitions were studied, such as cultural dimensions, innovative dimensions (movement along learning curves), value dimensions (cost versus value orientation). Proven is that the sustainable energy transition is such a transition that leads to an overall enhancement of effect within the energy sustainability trilemma.
