A conceptual approach to assessing the institutional and economic contour of the agricultural market and the potential for business development based on a combination of the concepts of "white and black box" and "institutional potential". Approbation of these concepts is the use of information about the institutional system or entities - institutional units of different organizational and legal forms, as well as component indicators of their effectiveness and efficiency, which allows obtaining a comprehensive assessment of institutional potential of enterprises in accordance with niche shortages of agricultural products. . The conceptualization of the category of institutional environment of business development in the agricultural sector of the economy is proposed - as a multilevel and complex institutional system and the fundamental basis of development, which reflects in a particular historical period institutional and economic relationships arising in the process of economic entities. And internal institutional factors are formed and provided by the relevant institutions in determining the purpose of development of the agricultural sector of the economy, the institutional superstructure of which are agricultural, land and lease relations. The methodological basis for the functioning of entrepreneurial formations in the market mechanism, through the institutional formalization of family farming in the mechanism of entrepreneurial activity in the agricultural sector of the economy, which is fundamentally manifested through the institutional effect of land ownership, ie one of the indicators of family farming -methodological identifier - the work of owners and members of his family. The value of the indicative indicator of the structure and size of land use is one of the main institutional and formalization features of family farming in the market mechanism of management, exclusively institutionally codified such typology in terms of other organizational and legal forms of management.
