The process of transformation of ideas about the nature and meaning and significance of love in ancient philosophical culture is comprehensively and systematically considered. The basic concepts of understanding love, which are present in the works of ancient Greek and Roman thinkers. The succession of ideas, constellations, maxims of ancient wise men on the development of ideas about love in the development of philosophical and anthropological thought is revealed.
