Essay

The dissertation presents a theoretical generalization and offers a novel scientific solution to the urgent problem of improving the effectiveness of medical and psychological support for individuals affected by the war in Ukraine by optimizing the process of medical and psychological care. Based on a comprehensive analysis, new empirical data were obtained concerning the psycho-emotional state of various categories of affected individuals, including military personnel, prisoners of war, internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as adults and children from temporarily occupied territories. The relevance and content of a professional training program for psychologists, "Clinical Psychology," were substantiated as a key component of an effective system of medical and psychological support. A model of medical and psychological care was developed, incorporating a comprehensive set of diagnostic, corrective, and rehabilitative measures tailored to the specific needs of each target group. As part of the research project, a psychosocial support program was implemented to stabilize the psycho-emotional state, reduce anxiety, depressive symptoms, and PTSD manifestations, and improve the overall quality of life of individuals affected by military conflict. The effectiveness of the implemented model of comprehensive medical and psychological support as a targeted intervention tool under wartime and post-war conditions has been empirically confirmed. A protocol-based rehabilitation model using cognitive-behavioral therapy was proposed for members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Territorial Defense units with various clinical diagnoses. Its impact on reducing the intensity of psychological maladjustment and improving mental health indicators was assessed. Specialized programs of medical and psychological support were developed for prisoners of war, IDPs, and individuals returning from temporarily occupied territories, considering their psycho-emotional state, social challenges, and identity-related difficulties. Particular attention was given to the integration of spiritual factors into the psychological support process for children who have experienced war-related trauma. An innovative model entitled "Psychology and Spirituality" was created and tested as a comprehensive intervention aimed at supporting the emotional, cognitive, and spiritual development of war-affected children. The solutions presented in this dissertation have significant practical value for implementation in crisis intervention practices, mental health systems, and the professional training of clinical specialists.
