Essay

Changes were studied in nerve cells of different parts of the nervous system during the most severe complication of diabetes mellitus. It has been for the first time established the daibetic pathology is followed by profound changes in the Ca exchange in neurones of the nociceptive pathways. The depend on the tipe and duration of diabetes and are dui primaraly to changes in the functional of intracellular Ca accumulating structures - mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum. Practical recomendations: the use of insulin therapy did not restore completely the discribed changes, indicating the importance of development of complex therapeutic methods which can act on the functioning of these structures. Field of application - endocrinology, neurology.
