Essay

Investigation object: The alkaline-earth atoms. Investigation purpose: Determination and investigation of physical processes which take place in formation of singly- and doubly-charged ions during multiphoton ionization of alkaline-earth atoms in different spectral ranges and at different polarization of laser radiation; determination of regularities and peculiarities of formation of these ions. Investigation methods and apparatus: The method of crossing of atomic beam and laser radiation and method of ion's spectroscopy were used. The designed and hand made powerful tunable lasers on Nd-glass and dye-laser, the standard low-power dye-laser were used. The hand made mass-spectrometer was used to analise the ions by mass and charge and high resolution spectrograf - for measurement of the frequency of laser radiation. Theoretical and practical results: The processes of formation of singly- and doubly-charged ions during multiphoton alkaline-earth atoms ionization were investigated in different spectral ranges and at different polarizations of laser radiation. During formation of singly-charged ions in visible spectral range following effects were studied: the Hypper-Raman scattering of light; the "transparent window" of atom ionization. During investigation of doubly-charged ions formation it was unambiguously proved that in visible spectral range the realization of step-wise mechanism is realized and in IR spectral range - the two-electron mechanism. The effective cross-sections of multiphoton ionization of singly-charged Sr and Ba ions were measured. Novelty of new-applied: The majority of scientific results was obtained for the first time. Degree of application: The results are applied in the Institute of General Physics of AS USSR (Moscow), and some of them are used in teaching of students in Uzhgorod University. Sphere (area) of application: In scientific investigations, in data banks, in educational process, in electronic industries, etc.
