The characteristic series method and influence function method are applied to solutions of the boundary-value problem of free transverse vibrations and the problem of deflection curve, critical Euler loads of an elastic beam with variable flexural rigidity, distributed mass, elastic base, axial loads, external friction. Practical recommendations for calculation, design and exploration of arc furnaces mechanisms have been substantiated.
