This thesis is dedicated to solving an actual scientific and technical task – increasing the effectiveness of peeling knives sharpening by an abrasive circle with planetary drive of cups. During the sharpening of steel peeling knives, the cutting process is accompanied by the release of large amounts of heat. The amount of heat increases as the abrasive grains of the circle become blunt. The heat causes local overheating of the working surfaces of the knife, which leads to local tempering and microcracks. One of the methods of reducing the temperature in the grinding zone is the method of continuous grinding. Regularities of influence of sharpening regimes on temperature, qualitative and stable indicators of sharpening process are established. A new design of a multi-cup abrasive wheel with a continuous working surface and a planetary drive of cups has been developed. Regression equations are obtained, which make it possible to take into account the interaction of the main influencing factors (cutting speed, abrasive wheel feed rate, cutting feed) on temperature, microhardness and durability in relation to the operation of peeling knives. Rational modes of sharpening knives with multi-cup intermittent abrasive wheels have been developed. The dependence of the blunting radius of the knife blade on the cutting path has been studied. It was found that the period of stability of the knives increases by 1.23 times. This allows to increase the productivity of machines by 11.6%. The application of the results of the dissertation allows to increase the stability of peeling knives and eliminate burns on their surfaces, get rid of burrs on the edges, eliminate chipping and bending of the blade. The developed recommendations for the manufacture of multi-cup abrasive wheels and sharpening modes make it possible to reduce the time for sharpening operation, increase the period of stability of the knives to work, increase the productivity of peeling machines. The technical novelty of the developments is protected by useful Ukrainian patents (Pat. №100679, Pat. №112090). Keywords: abrasive wheel, grinding cup, continuous grinding, modeling, temperature, microhardness, sharpening mode, durability of a knife.
