Herasymenko O. Children`s Fashion in Ukraine in the 20th Century – at the Beginning of the 21st Century: Evolution, Tendencies, Design Practice

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the actual problem of the art analysis of children`s fashion in Ukraine in the 20th century – at the beginning of the 21st century as a component of modern Ukrainian design. A comprehensive systematic analysis of the evolution of children`s fashion in the Ukrainian and world contexts is conducted. The factors of origin of children`s fashion and the stages of development of children`s fashion in the world and in Ukraine are identified. The information on the fashion designers engaged in the development of children`s clothing, who were the participants of the creative teams of the Ukrainian Houses of Designs of Clothing, is summarized. The main trends in children`s clothing are highlighted, namely: ethnic trends, the use of elements of mass culture in the design of children`s clothing, the family look direction. The directions of use of ethnic sources in children`s clothing are classified. The ways of expressing the images of mass culture in children`s clothing are generalized. Also, the main features of the family look direction are identified, which are the use of the same or similar prints, fabrics, colors, design solutions, silhouettes, finishing, structural and decorative elements in the artistic and imaginative solution of children`s and adult costumes. The factors that influenced the trends in children`s fashion are systematized. The influence of world fashion trends on the artistic and figurative solution of children's costume of the XX - early XXI centuries is established. As a result of comparing the designs of men`s, women`s, and children`s clothing, it is found that the interaction of adults and children`s fashion manifested in the use of similar artistic and imaginative solutions, finishing, structural and decorative elements, etc. Have been further developed: the research in the field of modern art criticism on the development of children`s fashion and features of the organization of the fashion industry of children`s clothing. The analysis of brands of children`s clothes is carried out; they are systematized according to the principles of design, production, and compliance with current fashion trends. The collections of children`s clothing are classified. The principles of development and formation of the range of collections of modern children`s clothing are highlighted. The works of leading designers of children's costumes of Ukrainian Houses of clothing models and brands of the XX - early XXI centuries are highlighted. The world and Ukrainian experience of project practices of children's clothes is generalized. The artistic and figurative features of the children`s costume in the collections of Ukrainian and world designers are systematized. The general recommendations on forecasting the color solutions for new models are developed and the offers regarding art and imaginative solution of a children`s costume for its application in design practice of clothes for children are provided.
