Kosheliev A. Biographical culture and the formation of the historical personality`s image in USA society during the beginning XX - XXI centurie.

The study and promotion of the life of an individual, his/her behavior, and experience is a socially constructed phenomenon. Social norms and values determine the focus of interest in the fate of another person. This can be traced both in the ways of depicting the biography and in the definition of specific aspects of human life, which are depicted depending on the historical context. The heroes of the biography are not a random choice of their authors. They appear as a result of complex cultural processes in society and act as their construct. Thus, the popularization of biographical information about the lives of historical figures, which are realized in different formats, reflect the directions of the humanitarian development of society in different historical periods. The results of the study demonstrate two important aspects of the development of American society during the beginning XX - XXI centuries: the specifics of the formation of the collective memory of the US citizens and of their values. The formation and transformation of images of historical figures are considered as a sensitive indicator of public sentiment. After all, forming their heroes or anti-heroes, the bearers of a culture retransmit, first of all, the axiological guidelines of their own time, which should or should not be followed. The theoretical basis of the Ph.D. thesis is based on the concept of "cultural memory" of society, which is one of the elements of the broader phenomenon of "collective memory". The application of these theoretical tools made it possible to cover the development of the spiritual sphere of society and to determine its values in historical dynamics. At the same time, the study of certain phenomena of socio-cultural life through the prism of "cultural memory" outlined the methodology of the work, the application of which allowed to reveal the problems of the dissertation more effectively.
