Essay

The presented paper considers improvement of heat resistant coating manufacturing proces for gas turbine engine blades, namely improvement of cathodes used to produce coatings by PVD method. The paper discusses effect of the modifying elements on structure and properties of the alloy, both wide range of manufacturing methods for heat resistant Ni-Cr-Al-Y alloy melting, and a manufacturing process of high quality consumables, such as cylindrical cathodes, for heat resistant coatings, were used. A choice of modifiers (Y, La, Hf) and their complexes was justified to improve properties of the cathodes and coatings produced from them. The effect of these elements on structural condition of the alloy has been discovered. Based on research results, a deposition process of gradient coating with the increased thickness on turbine blades has been developed, which allowed to increase life of the turbine rotor blade.
