Essay

This dissertation considers the peculiarities of the design of a modern photo book as an object of an art design: structure and methods of shaping photobook as a printing publication; the means of artistic and figurative expression; a composite solutions of the cover and spread of the book. Based on the analysis of artistic processes in the world and in Ukraine, it has been established that since the 1990s Ukraine has become a separate state. The first photobooks were created in Kharkiv, where there was a powerful group of the enthusiaststic artists. The ideological and artistic tendencies, that have developed in this association continue to influence on the Ukrainian photobook even today, although photographers from other regions of the country have joined to the process of creation their artbooks too. It was found that the most widespread methods of design of the modern Ukrainian photobooks, as an art object are such photo processing as coloring, «aging» of photographs, collage and montage; The technology of the use of film photography, archival photography, or their imitation by means of computer digital processing, remains in demand. It was found, that one of the leading trends, along with professional documentary or art photography, is the amateur photography, which is now actively involved in both foreign and domestic publishers of the photobooks, imitating the amateur photography or the effect of shooting a non-professional photographer
