Essay

The dissertation work provides a comprehensive analysis of military conflicts in the Caucasus region from the late 20th to the early 21st century through the prism of Ukrainian socio-political thought. The relevance of the research is determined by the need for a comprehensive analysis of contemporary armed conflicts, particularly in the Caucasus region, in order to develop recommendations for central authorities to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine, counter separatist threats, and centrifugal tendencies promoted by pro-Russian political forces. For the first time in Ukrainian historiography, the Ukrainian socio-political thought has been thoroughly analyzed in the context of military-political processes in the Caucasus region from 1989 to 2020. The study determines the attitude of the Ukrainian political establishment towards the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in the territories of the Republic of Ichkeria and Georgia. Additionally, it characterizes the level of support by Ukrainian society for the military actions of Azerbaijan during campaigns in Nagorno-Karabakh. The practical significance of the obtained results is determined by the fact that the factual material can be used in lecture courses on military history of the 20th and 21st centuries, political science, geopolitics, comprehensive works on modern history of Ukraine and post-Soviet states, textbooks, scientific/popular articles, as well as in the preparation of special courses for students of humanities faculties in Ukrainian higher education institutions (HEIs) and cadets of higher military institutions (HMIs).
