This thesis is a systemic scientific historical study about the creative heritage of the prominent scientist and the popularizer of science and education of Ukraine Professor K.V. Dubniak (1890–1948). It based on the analysis of the complex of representative sources and the use of modern methodological principles. Our focus is on Dubniak’s life path, educational-pedagogical, ethnographic, economic, bibliographic, publishing, lexicographic, organizational, methodological and scientific activities and contribution to the development of domestic scientific thought. The thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters and conclusions, list of sources and literature and applications. The introduction substantiates the relevance, reflects the connection with scientific programs, plans and topics. The purpose and tasks, object and subject, chronological and territorial borders, scientific novelty and practical direction of the obtained results are determined. The applicant’s personal contribution is offered. The author gives the data on approbation of results and a number of publications. The thesis’s scientific novelty is a comprehensive study of scientific biography, scientific-organizational and pedagogical activities of Professor K.V. Dubniak on a documentary basis for the first time in Ukrainian historiography. We have found the rare documents and identified the most important factors of the scientist’s formation. Among them are family and educational environment, support of the progressive views of his predecessors and broad scientific and pro-Ukrainian interests. In addition, we have proposed the periodization of his professional activity in the branch institutions. We have determined the most productive years of the scientist’s creative activity as «Kyiv» and «Kharkiv» periods. The historical-scientific analysis of creative achievements of the scientist in the main directions of his scientific works is carried out. Personalized approach allowed identifying the most important stages in the development of scientific areas in the domestic scientific thought, primarily in theoretical-methodical and specialized research activities, contribution to the organizational development of the functioning of the Agricultural Scientific Committee of Ukraine, etc. In the context of comprehensive research, a personalized approach made it possible to determine the most important stages of the development of related scientific directions in the natural, economic and humanitarian sciences, to provide the history of domestic science and technology of the beginning of the 20th century with portrait characteristics, to actualize the human-dimensional aspects of research work. We have done the task to study the scientific heritage of the recognized Ukrainian scientist Professor K.V. Dubniak in the system of these sciences in the 20’s of the XX century, where he was particularly active. The scientific biography of Professor K.V. Dubniak became the object of dissertation research for the first. Analysis of the current state of scientific development of the fundamental problems of the thesis showed the lack of comprehensive basic research, and published works only partially, fragmentarily reveal the life and creative path of the scientist. According to the results of the analysis of the source base, we have established that together they had allowed achieving the goal of the dissertation research – to show the importance of the conceptual foundations of the Professor K.V. Dubniak’s scientific heritage for the development of agricultural science, education and bibliography of Ukraine. It is determined the main events of life and the creative destiny in the context of historical and social conditions of the first decades of the XX century. We have analyzed the factors that influenced the formation of personal and individual potential, civic views and scientific beliefs. Particular attention is given to the scientist’s educational activity and private life are investigated. We first established that Professor K.V. Dubniak had a son Kost. Almost all information about his further fate was lost in the vortex of the repressive thirties of the XX century. For the first, we presented our own periodization of Professor K.V. Dubniak’s scientific and pedagogical studies. It has established his active professional position in the search for innovative ways of developing pedagogical thought in Poltava, Stavropol, Kyiv and Kharkiv regions. His contribution to the development of this science still have important educational, scientific-practical, cultural and educational significance in the context of building an independent state, which was and remains one of the determining factors in the formation of national consciousness.
