The completed dissertation work is devoted to the problem of the canonical confrontation between the Latin and Cyrillo-Methodian ecclesiastical traditions in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe during the 9th–11th centuries. The object of the PhD research deals with the Latin and Cyrillo-Methodian church traditions in the context of church-institutionalization processes, international relations and inter-rite canonical confrontation in the region of Central and Eastern Europe during the 9th–11th centuries. Therefore, the purpose of the dissertation studies involves an objective analysis and synthesis of a complex of historical facts, events, phenomena and laws, as well as church-dogmatic components related to the canonical confrontation of two outlined church traditions of the specified region. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the dissertation are determined by the use of the principles of scientific knowledge: objectivity, historicism, terminological analysis, alternative principle, as well as general scientific methods of actualization, historiographical analysis and synthesis, induction, deduction, concretization, historical analogy, system-structural method. The PhD papers are also based on the historical-genetic, comparative-historical, comparative, synchronistic methods, as well as on the methods of source studies – heuristic, hermeneutic, historical-critical methods, the method of cross-analysis of sources, interdisciplinary method of cartography. The scientific novelty of the dissertation consists in a comprehensive study of the history of the Slavic-Latin church-religious struggle and the reconstruction of the frontier of the canonical confrontation between the Latin and Cyrillo-Methodian church traditions in its dynamics, spatial-temporal transformation and regional expressions in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe during the 9th–11th centuries. The results of the research can be used in the preparation of professional publications on the specified issues, as well as in the preparation of various methodological developments, lecture courses, workshops and profile educational and methodological guides on the history of the Middle Ages and specialized courses on the history of the medieval Church. The materials of the dissertation can be used in the marking of tourist routes by zones of individual medieval monasteries, sacred complexes, hillforts, as well as in consulting artistic and documentary film production on similar issues.
