The dissertation presents the results of a theoretical generalization of the
genre-stylistic specificity of the choral work of the famous Ukrainian composers
Yurii Alzhniev and Ihor Haidenko, carried out on the example of musical works of
the 21st century.
The relevance of the study is justified by the need for further scientific
understanding of new artistic phenomena in the modern musical culture of
Ukraine, in particular choral works of Ukrainian composers created in the new 21st
century. Another aspect of the relevance of this study is the need to study the
creativity of the most famous representatives of regional composition schools of
Ukraine, which, in addition to high artistic achievements, also demonstrates
characteristic markers of local and territorial specificity. The choral work of the
leading Kharkiv composers Yu. Alzhniev and I. Haidenko, created by them in the
new 21st century, was chosen as the object of this dissertation research. Today, this work represents an interesting and nutritious musical material for the
musicological study of it from the point of view of genre-stylistic, musicallinguistic and compositional-technological features in the context of the
development of modern Ukrainian choral art. It attracts not only with its freshness,
novelty and originality, but also with the involvement of interesting compositional
technologies and means, bold artistic solutions in the field of genre modelling
(especially the work of Yu. Alzhniev), stylistic content, etc.
The scientific novelty of the study is as follows: For the first time, the choral
work of Yu. Alzhniev and I. Haidenko of the beginning of the 21st century became
the subject of a special musicological study; the genre systematization of the choral
work of Yu. Alzhniev and I. Haidenko was carried out; a comprehensive analysis
of the main choral works of Yu. Alzhniev and I. Haidenko of the beginning of the
21st century was carried out and the peculiarities of their genre-stylistic and
compositional organization were revealed. Clarified: directions and spheres of
activity of Yu. Alzhniev and I. Haidenko, as well as ideological and figurative,
genre-stylistic and compositional-technological dominants of their composer work.
Ideas about the artistic worldview and artistic principles of Yu. Alzhniev and
I. Haidenko, embodied in their choral works, gained further development.
The practical significance of the research lies in the possibility of using its
materials in lecture courses of art higher education institutions, in particular:
«Choir studies», «History of Ukrainian music», «Theory and history of choral
performance», «Methodology of teaching choral conducting»; theoretical and
practical courses: «Analysis of choral works», «Reading of choral scores»,
«Modern techniques of composition in performing practice», «Performing and
choral interpretation»; classes in the specialty (choral conducting), choir and vocal
ensemble, composition class, etc. Also, individual fragments from the material of
the conducted scientific research can be used in lecture practice regarding modern Ukrainian music, annotations and musicological accompaniments of concerts of choral music by Yu. Alzhniev and I. Haidenko.
The analysis of the historiography and the source base in relation to the
object of research chosen in this work fully confirmed the thesis that most of the
musical output of Yu. Alzhniev and I. Haidenko, and especially their choral work
of the last two decades, remains mainly untouched and in need of more active
musicological attention. The study of the source base of the conducted scientific
research made it possible to systematize the analysed positions into separate blocks and groups. In particular, the following blocks are highlighted: a) sources of
informational and reference-encyclopaedic nature; b) scientific works aimed at
studying the work of these composers, including their choral work; c) scientific
works of the so-called contextual nature, which are devoted to the study of various
aspects of modern Ukrainian choral creativity.
