ABSTRACT Sushko P. Training a producer in Ukraine: search for an optimal model. – Qualifying scientific work on the rights of manuscript. A dissertation for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the specialty 021 «Audiovisual Arts and Productions». – Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University. Kyiv, 2025. The relevance of the research is determined by significant changes in the Ukrainian cultural and artistic environment, accompanied by reforms in the fields of audiovisual production and professional education. In contemporary conditions, with the formation of a new model for producer training and the creation of cultural products, the need for highly qualified producers capable of working in market conditions and global competition is growing. At the same time, issues remain related to the insufficient number of Departments of Producing in most higher education institutions, the limited presence of practitioner lecturers, and the need to modernize the educational system for more active integration of innovations. These challenges underscore the importance of exploring ways to create an optimal model for producer training that meets European standards and promotes the development of Ukraine’s audiovisual industry. The scientific novelty of the results obtained is that the author of the dissertation for the first time: substantiates the optimal model of training producers in Ukraine, taking into account the analysis of relevant national and international experience (using the example of the USA, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Poland), industry needs and current conditions, based on an interdisciplinary approach that combines scientific, theoretical, personal and cultural components into a single humanistic system. The author proves the need to train producers at three educational levels with optimal training periods: professional higher education - line producer (2 years), bachelor's degree - executive producer (4 years) and master's degree - producer (5 years). This model of training takes into account both the need for theoretical study of the basics of film production, including the latest disciplines of audiovisual art, and practical training in real-life film production conditions. The main mechanisms for the formation of an optimal model of producer training in Ukraine are determined, covering regulatory, organizational, educational, methodological and personnel aspects that contribute to the effective training of professional personnel in the field of audiovisual production and ensure the relationship between the educational system and the film industry. The periodization of the formation and development of the institute of production in Ukraine has been improved, taking into account the peculiarities of the period since the emergence of cinema in Ukraine and after the restoration of independence in 1991; regulatory mechanisms for training producers in Ukraine, taking into account the needs of the modern audiovisual market, by amending the existing legal acts, in particular 1) the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” to expand opportunities for teaching film industry practitioners in artistic higher education institutions; 2) introducing a mechanism for distributing state funds for film production by students; 3) providing internships for students on real film projects in film companies that have received state financial support, etc.; adapting curricula in accordance with European standards, etc; organizational mechanisms for training producers in Ukraine, including the creation of platforms for the exchange of experience, strengthening international cooperation, updating the list of professions and specialties, active involvement of practitioners in teaching, expanding internship programs in real-world film production (in particular, it is shown that during the training period it is advisable to undergo an internship in each department on real film projects and a final internship at the end of the training as an assistant executive producer), introducing international exchange, as well as modernization of curricula by introducing new disciplines. The typology of producer training models historically formed in global cinematographic practice has been further developed. Various approaches to education, including cognitive, psychological, methodological, and organizational components have been considered that ensure the development of professional skills of future producers. It also systematizes trends in producer training in foreign countries and Ukraine, particularly in the context of integrating new technologies, emphasizing interdisciplinarity, and developing practical skills.
