The purpose of the study: to develop and experimentally confirm a theoretically grounded methodology of training future music teachers for the use of modernist music in educational practice. The scientific novelty of the obtained research results lies in the fact that for the first time: 1) a holistic study of the problem of the relationship of the practice of art education to the phenomenon of modernism in the artistic culture of the 20th-21st centuries has been carried out; 2) the category of modernism and the concepts related to it have been defined from the position of pedagogical science; 3) the pedagogical potential of modernist music has been revealed, associated with such areas of musical and educational activity as listening; performing; didactic actions; creative activity; creation of synthetic artistic artefacts; formation of hermeneutic competence; 4) a theoretical model of the readiness of future music teachers to use modernist music in educational practice has been constructed; this model includes a systematic and holistic knowledge of modernism in art, the ability to understand works of modernist musical art, the ability to verbally and musically interpret modernist musical works, interest in modernist music and motivation to use it in educational practice; 4) scientific and pedagogical approaches (culturological, polyartistic, praxeological and hermeneutic) and pedagogical principles (visuality, problem-based learning, pedagogy of cooperation, creativity, individual tasks) have been determined; 5) a set of methods for ensuring training has been developed, which includes: a method of modelling the historical process of art evolution, which represents the phenomenon of modernist music in the dimensions of sound material; musical language, composition technique, genre and style; holistic and cross-cultural analysis of works of synthetic art, interactive methods and forms of work (game, debate, team competition, collective design, mental maps), creative experiment with sound material, method of game apology of technological means of creativity, method of recomposition, performing and verbal interpretation of a musical work, method of literary programming (storytelling), etc.; 6) the priority of the method of artistic experiment in the forms of arrangement, regulated improvisation and composition is determined; 7) a set of pedagogical conditions is established that ensure the effective implementation of the developed methodology in practice (observance of an impartial attitude to the phenomena of modernism, ensuring the process of expanding the experience of perception of modernist music, appropriate selection of artistic samples); 8) assessment criteria are determined and means of diagnosing students' readiness to use works of modernist music in educational practice are proposed. The practical significance of the obtained research results lies in the possibility of applying its theoretical material, methodological provisions, diagnostic tools and results of experimental work in the practice of art education institutions, in particular in the professional musical and performing training of future bachelors and masters of musical art.
