The object of the study: 109 patients with iatrogenic lesions of bile ducts and their consequences - cicatrical strictures and bile fistu-lae. The operated patients included 32 males and 77 females; their age ranged within 19-83 years. The purpose of the study was to improve results of surgical treatment of patients with iatrogenic lesions of bile ducts. The following methods were used: radiography, sonography, computed tomography, cholangiography, fistulocholangiography. The main causes of hepaticocholedochal lesions were revealed and principles for their prophylaxis were established. Methods of treating and preventing hepatic insufficiency in patients with cicatrical strictures of bile ducts were developed. Technique of conduction-free change of Praderi-Smith transhepatic drainage was worked out. An original design of forceps for the hepatoduodenal ligament was suggested.
