Essay

A complex clinical- epidemiological investigation of the rural population (total 650 subjects ) aged 20 to79 years of two national- ethnic groups ( Russian-Ukrainian and Crimea-tatar), all of them inhabitants in Krasnogvardeysk and Rasdolnoe districts of the AR Crimea, was undertaken. The following study methods were used: examinations by a neurologist and therapeutist, an electrophysiologycal investigation of brain bioelectrical activity (electroencephalography) and cerebral blood circulation (ultrasaund dopplerography). This study has revealed the age-related, sex and national-ethnical peculiarities of the level and structure of the prevalence of cerebrovascular deseases, namely: a higher incidence of cerebral atherosclerosis, arterial hypertention and stroke in males and females in the Russian-Ukrainian ethnic group, observed at all age periods, in comparison with the Crimea-tatar ethnic group. In the latter, a more slowed rate of the population ageing and the less marked age-related changes of the brain have been found. As an outcome, the implementation of the obtained results in clinical practice as well as in vocational training for medical and postgraduate students would permit to shape treatment and prophylactic services for the population with an account being taken of the morbidity specifics.
