Essay

The object of the investigation is an asyndetic composite sentence - a sentence, one of the parts of which (semantically and pragmatically indepedent) has a directive communicative function. Mainly imperative constructions have been investigated in the work. The aim of the work is to examine the illocutionary force of directive utterances which are expressed by asyndetic composite sentences, to determine the communicative significance of each part of an asyndetic composite sentence in a speech act, to determine the illocutionary characteristics and functions of each part of an asyndetic composite sentence, to put forward a version of pragmatic classification of asyndetic composite sentences of directive type according to their illocutionary characteristics. The scientific novelty of the work is in the fact that the communicative structure of an asyndetic composite sentence in modern Ukrainian language has been examined for the first time, and an attempt to analyze the illocutionary components of an ut terance which is expressed by an asyndetic composite sentence has been made.
