Shabat S. The category of interrogative modality in the modern Ukrainian language.

The object of the research are sentences with interrogative modality. The aim of the dissertation is the systematic, comprehensive analysis of functioning of sentences with interrogative modality in the modern Ukrainian language taking into consideration their main structural and semantic parameters. The methods of the research are semantic-syntactical, intentional, elements of contextual analysis, the method of direct observation and systematic description. The theoretical value and scientific novelty of the research lie in the fact that for the first time in the Ukrainian linguistics the linguistic status of the category of interrogative modality was described and a complex analysis of interrogative sentences was conducted. The practical value is determined by the direct relation between the object of the research and practical teaching of the Ukrainian language at schools and higher educational institutions. The results of the research complement the theories of communicative linguistics and functi onal syntax of the Ukrainian language; they may be used in preparation of half courses in linguistic pragmatics and stylistics, grammar books and methodological manuals.
