Essay

It deals with the analysis of the sources and publications about Kvitka's activity (they are about 90 in number). The author analyses the memoirs of the people who knew the scientist and pays special attention to Lesya Ukrainka's letters about him. Systematizing and analysis of Kvitka's heritage testifies about the considerable achievements of the scientist in all the areas of ethnomusicology: the notes and publications of folk music, methodical and methodological investigations. He expanded and deepened the methods of folk musik recording and its investigation, formulated and realized the main principles, among them confirming the value of the traditional rural culture, the importance of comments and descriptions observed in the people everyday life, the importance of the rythmo - structural type as the indicator of the notice accuracy.The investigation shows that Kvitka's ethnomusicology concept is a new word in the european science dealing with the folk music creative work.
