Veselovs'kyj S. Identification of citizens of Ukraine as a factor of its foreign policy development

.The dissertation draft determines the current state of more general collective identities of Ukrainian citizens as a basis for development of processes of political integration of Ukraine into European and world union. It specifies the place and role of identity in the process of political system functioning and, in doing so, the political functions of identity are stressed on in particular manner. By using political and territorial differentiation of identity types, the author analyses identities which prevail among Ukrainian citizens and shows how they are interconnected. The work underlines those identities which may form a social basis of the Ukraine's policy related to integration into EU and determines what identification patterns may ensure the consolidation of Ukrainian society upon the development of European integration processes. A particular attention is paid to political symbols with a help of which social institutes form current collective identities of Ukrainians.
