The thesis is dedicated to the study of personal peculiarities and family reactions of the women suffering from spouse abuse. The family relationships in case of the Battered Woman Syndrome are regarded from the point of family system theory. Women inadaptive behavioral strategies, which reinforce abuse, are defined. Battered Woman Syndrome manifests itself in the disturbances of emotional and cognitive functions and in distortion of self-perception. There are revealed the victimizing influence mechanisms of psycho-traumatic factors of parent-children relationship upon the girl's personality and her learning of the victim role. Cross-cultural differences in family abuse in Ukraine and Poland are compared.
