The thesis is devoted to problems of law regulation of civil relations in Poltava and Chernigov guberniyas in the first part of the XIX century. The range of social-economic, political, and technical-juridical factors has been examined, which influenced the abolishment of a local law in Poltava and Chernigov guberniyas and leaving to those guberniyas specific legal status. The essence of legal rules specific for the Left part of Ukraine has also been analyzed in details. Those legal rules were included into the Code of Laws of Russian Empire (second edition). The codification of law in the Left part of Ukraine in the 40 th of the XIX century was also investigated. But specific legal rules took only secondary place in the Code of Laws of Russian Empire, because the internal policy of autocracy tended to unify and centralize law. The fact that legal rules were included into the Code of Laws could be explained by the structure of Russian legislative system, which left , in some cases, specific legal status to some regions and to a certain group of people. The results of this research may be used for teaching the History of State and Law of Ukraine , the Fundamentals of Law, the Fundamentals of Constitutional Law. They also can be useful for the preparation of teaching materials.
