Seligej P. The Names of Emotions' Internal Form in Ukrainian.

The object of research is names of emotions in the modern Ukrainian standard language, the main goal is to reveal and explain their internal form (i. e. semantic motivation). The main method is the comparative-historical one, auxiliary methods are the method of semantic field, the method of "words and things", and the method of semantic parallels. Scientific novelty: new approaches to some unsettled problems of general theory of word's internal form are developed, names of emotions are etymologized for the first time as a whole; the nominative models of emotions are revealed. Theoretical importance of the thesis: it expands, defines more exactly, and generalizes previous etymology of names of emotions; confirms the existence of regularities in historical development of vocabulary; reveal the interpretation of human emotional sphere in Ukrainian language image of the world. Results and conclusions can be used in works on general etymology, historical and comparative lexicology, theory of nomination, his tory of psychology and mythology. The facts collected in the thesis would be useful for improving etymological and historical dictionaries, for compiling a dictionary of semantic changes as well as while etymologizing names of emotions of unknown origin.
