3. The dissertation is devoted to the problem of functioning of "eternal" images in the Ukrainian literature of the 1920s. The history of investigation of the notion "eternal" images was analysed. It was found out that indisputable connections between Ukrainian and West European literature existed. The causes of frequent usage of "eternal" images on the pages of the works of Ukrainian writers of the 1920s have been found. The idea of such notions as "Donquixotism", "Hamletism", "Karamazovshchina", "Dostoyevshchina" was supplemented. The aesthetic principles of poets-"neo-classics" were substantiated. The aesthetic functions of "eternal" images can be found by means of attributing positive qualities of a classical image were traced and elucidated.
