Essay

. The dissertation focuses on the process of formation of an author's self-image in the Russian and Ukrainian cultural environments created under the influence of romantism and reproduced in the genre of a self-portrait. The results of the art and literary research of professional and amateur self-portraits are analysed in the general sphere of a cultural research. An author's self-image, and a self-portrait in which a self-image is embodied, are described as a project image, i.e. an art and cogitative construct which is meaningfully and structurally set by a romantic character's image, and is intended for elimination of problematic situations that arise in the culture of romantism being a result of a superposition of the public's ideas about the author's personality and the author's oeuvre. The results of the research may be used in the scientific, pedagogic, and art practice.
