Essay

This work has studied in detail the possibilities for breeding high-productive varieties of corn hybrid based on the lines which differ in their vegetation periods. The authors suggest heterosis models that can be used for obtaining high-productive corn hybrids. The paper analyses the effect of each germ plasma to resultant productive features in hybrids. A number of hybrids have been specified which feature the same properties as the best Ukrainian varieties adapted to local conditions or the most productive hybrids selected in foreign countries. Based on the seed material under investigation, it has been proved that there are opportunities for selection of hybrids with a more complex genetic structure. The authors have also analyses the crop-yield prediction method suggested by Jenkins
