Essay

Children having maxillofacial surgery (MFS). The aim of investigation - to elaborate the best method of propofol-based anaesthesia (PBA) for MFS in children. Clinical, biochemical, immunological, psychometrical, and statistical methods were used. Post-anaesthesia artificial respiration was 2.6 times shorter, and recovery was 3.9 times faster after propofol-fentanyl anaesthesia (PF group) than after ketamine-fentanyl anaesthesia (KF group). Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) was 13.6 times less in PF than in KF group. PONV was absent after PBA with peripheral nerve blocks as an analgesic component (PR group). Cellular component of immune status was less suppressed in PR group than in PF and KF groups. After PBA, especially in PR group, cognitive functions were less depressed than in KF group. Field of application - health protection.
