Essay

The dissertation focuses on a complex comparative-typological analysis of Ukrainian-Russian verb homonyms from the point of view of their form and content in genetic, structural, semantic and functional aspects. The use of semasiological and onomasiological appoaches facilitated singling out and differentiating absolute and relative, heterogeneous and homogeneous interlingual homonymy, specifying its principal sources, building the typology of homonyms' semantic structures as well as tracing the semantic development of homohymic correlates different by origin.Functional peculiarities of the verb-semantic homonyms in the compared languages were defined in connection with their aspectuality morphemic and semantic specificity, their onomasiological status and word-formative families of verbs. Interlingual cross-rows of the units under analysis were modelled with regards to their difference in form. Within each investigated type, quantitative and qualitative correlations of homogeneous LSV were determined, the sphere of their usage, stylistic colouring and other characteristics were defined.
