Boychenko N. The verbal set phrases in the mass media text: typological characteristics and expressive potential

The thesis is dedicated to the functional description of the verbal set phrases in the mass media text in Ukrainian language. In the thesis the verbal set phrases are approached to as lexical-grammatical analytical units of language that occupy the niche between free word combinations and idioms. The author has examined the factors that condition the idiomatic character of the verbal set phrases that are under research. The semantic processes in verbal components and tendencies of their combination with substantive components were investigated by means of the method of seme analysis. The author has also established the group of derivational verbs that are the most productive in formation of the verbal set phrases. The lexical-grammatical and expressive meanings conveyed with the help of the analytical structure of the verbal set phrases were determined. The problems of the internal syntactic combinability of the verbal set phrases, their syntactic functions and connections within the sentence were considered.
