Research object: new promising and zoned winter wheat varieties differing in ecological and genetic origin and application duration. Research methods: field, laboratory, combined (field and laboratory), statistical. Comparative and computive. The results of research done in 1996-1998 prove that winter wheat in the conditions of Southern Ukraine forms higher yields due to the combination of the following growing factors: a 45-60 days autumn vegetation period with the sum of positive temperatures 460-4750C, the sum of effective temperatures 220-2600C, and an average daily temperature 7,6-8,10C. These conditions are provided by wheat sowing in the middle of the third ten-day interval of September. Irrigation stimulated a 15.6 c/ha yield increase.Odeska 162, Nakhodka 7,Khersonska 86 were identified as high homeostasis varieties. Grain quality of different varieties showed a tendency to by higher when sown later, while seed quality improved when parents were grown under irrigation. 36156
