Essay

The investigation is dedicated to fundamentally significant processes in the history of European art culture of the late 18th - early 20th centuries which represent the radical transformation of the previous (traditional) nature of arts and literature into qualitatively new one. The aspirant is the first to introduce the categories which have not been used before into the field of Comparative Literature. The use of these categories is dictated by the need of adequate revealing of the presented theme. Besides the Aristotelian mimesis the author uses the idea of pro-Aristotelian mimesis and non-Aristotelian mimesis. The idea of August Schlegel about the old centuries-long pre-Romantic era and a modern era (started by Romanticism) in the history of European art culture has been taken up and developed to the category level. It has been shown that the so-called "Copernican revolution" in the thought of European humanity played a decisive part in the transition from the former to the latter era.
