The subject of dissertation's research is historic literary conception of Boborykyn concerning west european novel. Originality of his views is examined in the context of aesthetic and idea - philosophical searches of the author and in the context of epoch. Principal tenenty of Boborykyn's aesthetics, his historical and literary position are characterised in the dissertation, the logic of scientiaesthetic searches which define his place in literary science of his time is found, the essence of views to the importance of novel's genre in European literature,principles of the novel's constraction as genre are determined.
