Essay

Subject of inquiry: the processes of snow deposits formation near automobile roads during blizzards. Aim of investigation: an improvement of methods of calculation the snow-bringing volumes to the automobile roads on the basis of analysis and refinement of snow transferring and snow-drifts formation mechanism in view of regional features of snow-blizzard regimes on the roads. Methods of investigation and equipment: the methods of full-scale studies; the methods of mathematical modeling on computer; a density of deposits was calculated by weight method; a snow humidity was calculated by the calorimetric method. Theoretical and practical results: the new data were obtained with respect to the theory of the automobile roads operation containing the refinement of automobile roads snow-blizzard regime on the basis of snow humidity during blizzards taken into account. There were refined the laws and were obtained new experimental data due to the processes of snow transferring, formation and evolution of snowdeposits near automobile roads. The designed volumes of snow bringing to the automobile roads in various regions of Ukraine were determined. The recommendations on correction the automobile roads snow protection systems have been worked out depending on the regional features of the roads snow-blizzard regime. Scientific novelty: the mechanisms of snow transferring and snow deposits formation near automobile roads depending on the snow humidity were determined. The method of calculation the volumes of snow-bringing to the automobile roads with regard to the physico-mechanical properties of snow during blizzard was refined. New experimental data about the processes of snow deposits formation near snow-protection devices and their changes during winter period were obtained. Level of implementation: the developed method on calculation the volumes of snow-bringing and the recommendations are the constituent part of "A complex program on improvement the winter maintenance of the automobile roads of general use in Ukraine" and the draft "Unified rules on winter maintenance of the automobile roads of general use". The method is used in the course and diploma projects on a subject "Operation of the automobile roads" in Kharkov national automobile and highway university. Field of application: design and operation of the automobile roads snow-protection systems.
