The thesis deals with the problem of finding efficient ways of teaching monological utterance in English with the help of feature films. It theoretically grounds psychological, linguistic, didactic and methodological requisites for the use of feature films while teaching students of language departments monological utterance in English, enlightens the typical traits of feature films as a kind of video phonogram, analyses linguistic characteristics of monological utterance in English using the examples from feature films, determines the main discourse forms of monologues while teaching to the students of language departments and necessary skills to be developed in students, specifies main principles of choice of feature films while teaching, offers theoretical base for creating the complex of exercises and elaborates a complex of exercises with illustrations, works out the stages of teaching monological skills, offers the model of teaching oral monological utterance in English with the use of feature films. The mastering of main discourse forms of monologue splits into several stages of forming skills such as the stage of improvement of general skills, the stage of forming and improvement of special skills of monological utterance, the stage of development of both general and special skills of producing monologues. The complex of exercises is based on main stages of teaching monologue: reproductive partially determined speech > reproductive and productive partially determined speech > productive minimum determined speech. The effectiveness of the given complex of exercises and the model of teaching monological utterance in English with the use of feature films were experimentally confirmed. In the result of the experiment the most efficient succession of the teaching process has been defined: the viewing of feature film and activities based on the film linguistic material and content follow the reading of printed texts and fulfilment of text-based exercises.
