The dissertation is devoted to solving the problem at the theoretical and practical levels regarding the development of motor and volitional qualities of cadets i.e. future specialists of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Armed Forces (AF) of Ukraine by means of hand-to-hand combat in the process of physical education with the aim of forming their integral readiness to perform specific tasks of professional and combat activity. In the first chapter “Theoretical foundations of the development of motor and volitional qualities of cadets by means of hand-to-hand combat in the process of physical education” the specifics of the professional and combat activity of specialists of the SOF of the AF of Ukraine and the requirements for the development of their motor and volitional qualities are disclosed; the role and place of hand-to-hand combat in the physical training of future specialists of the SOF of the AF of Ukraine is clarified; the foundations of the development of motor skills and education of willpower of cadets in the process of training in hand-to-hand combat are revealed. It was found that hand-to-hand combat, being an effective means of training specialists of the SOF of the AF of Ukraine for actions in close combat, is also an effective means of developing and improving their physical and psychological readiness, forming various motor skills, fostering courage, determination. It was found that in the armies of the leading NATO countries, hand-to-hand combat is considered as a means of military applied physical training, as well as psychological hardening of servicemen and resistance to the influence of combat stress. In the second chapter “Justification of the methodology of development of motor and volitional qualities of cadets by means of hand-to-hand combat in the process of physical education” the methods and organization of scientific research are disclosed; the results of a survey of cadets for the purpose of studying their motivation for engaging in hand-to-hand combat are given; the level of development of motor and volitional qualities of cadets in the process of hand-to-hand combat was investigated; the relationship between the level of development of motor and volitional qualities of cadets during hand-to-hand combat classes is determined. According to the results of the research conducted as part of the ascertaining stage of the pedagogical experiment, the methodology for the development of motor and volitional qualities of cadets by means of hand-to-hand combat in the process of physical education has been scientifically substantiated.
