Object of the study: Wound infection and sepsis. Purpose: Improvement of treatment results in patients with severe wound infection and sepsis basing on main criteria for their differential diagnosis as a part of their complex therapy. Methods of investigation and equipment: Clinical, laboratory, bacteriological and immunological study. Equipment: spectroflorimeter, spectrophotometer, torsion scales. Theoretical and practical results: Accessible for practical surgery, clinical laboratory techniques as well as graded evaluation of the modified system APACHE-II were suggested for timely diagnosis in the patients with severe wound infection and sepsis. The stage of local treatment in the primary purulent focus using monitoring of the use of new drugs was optimized. The protocols for empiric and target antibiotic therapy in patients with severe infection and sepsis were suggested. Radical character of the operation and rapid improvement of the general condition of the patient were defined as an important prognostic sign. Degree of introduction: The results of the study have been introduced into the practice of the City Purulent Septic Center (Zaporizhzhia), general hospitals No. 2, 3, 7 in Zaporizhzhia as well as Melitopol, Energodar, Berdiansk.
