Object of the study: steroidogenesis, fetoplacental complex. Purpose of the study: To reduce the risk of fetoplacental insufficiency and disturbances of steroidogenesis after exposure to ionizing radiation using laser photobiotherapy. Methods of investigation and equipment: ionizing irradiation, laser treatment, histological techniques, method of semi-thin slices, transmission electron microscopy, morphometry, mathematical, general clinical, clinico-statistical methods, investigation of the course of pregnancy and delivery in 122 women. Practical significance of the obtained results: The revealed disturbances of fetoplacental complex in the women whose husbands had been exposed to gamma-radiation allowed to define the risk group requiring correcting therapy. For practival use, an acceessible method of preventing fetoplacental insufficiency having a number of advantages (simplicity of use, relative cheapness, absence of contraindications, and negative drug effects on the pregannt, non-invasive character, double action on of the laser beam on the carotid blood flow and reflexogenic sinocarotid zone, absence of coagulation control) was developed. Novelty: The effect of radiation on fetoplacental insufficiency development in women whose husbands had been exposed to gamma-rays was shown. It was proven that administration of laser therapy from the moment of fetoplacental insufficiency diagnosis at a dose of 10 mWt No. 5 every other day together with the generally accepted therapy reduced the incidence of pregnancy complications as well as that of fetoplacental insufficiency, intrauterine growth retardation and morbidity in children. It was established that exposure of the experimental male animals to gamma-rays at a sublethal dose caused numerous changes in the structure of the ovaries in their off-springs: connective tissue hyperplasia, worsening of the ovarian blood supply, disturbances in the intercellular contacts. For the first time it was revealed that after total gamma-irradiation of the parents, their off-springs demonstarted involvement of the components responsible for formation of functionally active ovocytes and biosynthesis of steroid hormones. It was revealed that the degree of the changes in the structure of the ovaries depended on the fact whether one or both parents were irradiated. Degree of introduction: main concepts of the work were introduced into the work of City Clinical Maternity Hospital (Poltava), maternity departments of Khorol and Lubny Central District Hospitals (Poltava Region). Field of application: Medicine, obstetrics and gynecology.
