In the dissertation the researcher investigates the evolution of I.Franko's creativity in 1870-1880ies from the viewpoint of his early esthetic and philosophical claims in "Poeziya i yiyi stanovyshche v nashykh vremenakh" ("Poetry and its situation in our times") and in the poetical collection "Balady i roskazy" ("Ballads and stories"). It is proved that the author's intention, the content of which is designated by "the definition of poetry" (literature), is an impulse and determining factor: "The Poetry searches a spark of Deity in reality".
