The thesis is dedicated to the investigation of the category of evil in modern culture. The evolution of the notion of evil in the cultural and historic tradition of humanity is examined. The concept of devil has been worked out, taking into consideration the changes of the socio-cultural paradigm of the 2-nd half of XX century as a multi interval historical and cultural phenomenon. There is established that western and native culture of the end of millenium is supersaturated by the explicit and implicit evil images. Death, blood, violence, brutality, inspirituality is a commonness at the screen and in life. Evil livened up. In the art has been already presented not only as an age-old opponent of good, but as its winner. Moreover, the transition from the justification of evil to its exaltation and glorifying occurred. Thus, in the 2-nd half of the XX century the deep fault in the evolution of the western culture took place: for the first time the concept of evil as a phenomenon of the cultural consciousness was used more and more distinctly and persistently in the opposite direction, as a self-sufficing and all-sufficient value of the human being in its destructive and antihuman function. Triumphant procession of the "artistically conspiratorial" images of evil in modern culture gives birth and increases the quantity of real evil at present time. The given thesis deals with the revealing and basing of this fact.
