The dissertation is dedicated to the study of the theoretical - methodological and psychological-pedagogical essence of the background knowledge and its influence on the literary development of students. The dissertation proves that the background knowledge as a structural element of the school subject " Foreign Literature" is one of the motive powers of the literary development of students as well as a tool of realization of the profound perception of an artistic (literary) work.
