Theoretically grounded and experimentally tested system of Forming in senior pupils the Ukrainian national character at the lessons of Ukrainian literature is presented in the dissertation. It is established that mastering by senior pupils the contents of ethnical notions, forming of skills and of introspection, analysis of national character of the writer and his heroes helps to form the generalized image of a representative if the national community and national ideals. The process of identification with them determines the qualitative changes in the hierarchy of valuable orientations of a personality.
