Chernikova L. The poetics of the Historical Drama of I. Karpenko-Kary: Romantic Discurs.

The massif of the historical drama of Karpenko-Kary: drama "Bondarivna", comedy-joke "Dare-devil of XVIII century", melodramas "Stray spark burns out a field and disappears" and "Gandzia", drama "Mazepa", tragedy "Sava Chaly" - is investigated in the dissertation from the standpoint of literary schools of romanticism and neo-romanticism. The devices of plot-making and character-formation as well as the type of dramatic conflict are examined; stylistic devices of romantic expressiveness are emphasized. The author of dissertation determines the role and the place of the image of the romantic hero - the fighter, the defender of the people and fatherland and it interprets the functioning of antinomy "hero - antihero" in a general structure of plays. The critic observes the enrichment of the drama with the forms and methods of psychological analysis; it emphasizes the role of epic and lyric elements in the extension of drama figurative possibilities.
