In the work there were elucidated functions, meaning and interconditionality of the two core existential motifs - the Death motif and the Eros motif - as well as their ambivalent, full of irony and running through shape. On this basis the image of the main character was revealed, its characteristics, the main of which is its novel nature, were defined, and the presence of the plot in the book was grounded. In the research it was also proved that the composition of the "Mounted Army" is a strict structure, and the conclusion was drawn that Babel's book, which can be designated in genre respect as the so-called "discrete novel".
