Essay

A technology has been developed for desulphurization of the naphthalene fraction of coal origin in the presence of b - naphthalene sulphonic acid as a catalyst. Using the procedure developed the relationship has been established between the level of removing benzothiophene and the temperature, residence time of reaction mass amount of the catalyst on the basis of which optimal conditions of desulphurization of the naphthalene fraction were determined. The influence of the naphthalene fraction composition on the process of refining is shown. The mechanism was studed of removing benzothophene and formation of reaction products - tarry substances. Based on laboratory researches the technological parameters of the desulphurization process were substantiated and a principal flowsheet was developed for removing benzothiophene from the naphthalene fraction in the presence of b- naphthalene sulphonic acid. The research carried out at the Phenol Plant under pilot conditions confirm the efficiency of the developed method of removing benzothiophene from the naphthalene fraction in the presence of b - naphhthalene sulphonic acid. The introduction of this technology would reduce the cost price by 145 grivnas per tonne of refined naphthalene.
